Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Lost site – all I get are 404 Error messagesDear Christine,
Thank you very much for your advice. I managed to restore the old settings, thanks to a video tutorial someone else had posted. I am afraid I am such a novice that your steps 1-5 are a bit beyond me right now. (IE, I don’t know what an FTP is – do you mean the control panel in my Webhosting.UK account? If the files you mention were easily accessible, I could upload them, but I don’t know what a text editor or a root folder are, and I would be very afraid to delete the old site.) I called the support team at Webhosting.UK and they said that when I was up and running again, they would change the URL for me, so I am going to do that for now, and then start taking some video tutorials and webinars on WordPress so I can follow instructions like yours.
Thanks again for your very helpful reply. I just wish I was more knowledgeable about computers, but so far I have done okay with my very rudimentary skills, and hopefully I will improve if I apply myself when not stressed by my grave errors!
Very best, and Happy New Year!
Naomi
