In reply to: [Search Everything] zemanta api calls no longer work, causing error 500it wasn’t any work at all. I just installed Relivanssi and uninstalled Search Everything. There are lots of little switches to set how you want the search to be conducted in an interface that’s intuitive. I just got an update to Relivanssi which is the most important thing to me – a cared-for plugin!

While it was interesting to run this fix, I have moved on to relevanssi (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/relevanssi/) which is in active development. Running out of date plugins is really dangerous. I suggest everyone move along!

In reply to: [Search Everything] zemanta api calls no longer work, causing error 500I enjoyed learning how to hack around this problem from this community, but as mocax says, it’s foolish to continue to use a clearly unsupported plugin. I Switched to Relivanssi by Mikko Saari and it’s working well (and it’s in active development!)

In reply to: 4.9.6 – after publishing, blank screenThanks for the ideas, James. I switched to the 2017 theme and it didn’t fix the problem. I was prepared for that but really bummed that switching to that theme and back broke many of my customizer settings. I had to rebuild some stuff, like moving the footer to the sidebar, lost my front page image and grabbed the wrong menus. I finally got that sorted, but maybe that advice should come with a disclaimer.
My theme vendor, Site Origin gave me an easier idea than disabling all of my plugins (which would make a dog’s dinner of my site). They suggested I turn on the debugger in config.php. It immediately pinpointed that Search Everywhere had a fatal error. Turned off that one plugin and boom! Problem fixed.

t-p: I hesitate to follow the suggestions because this is only one post, and only one part of one post, If it was affecting all of my posts, then the steps you describe would be logical in eliminating the root cause.
The thing that drives me nuts is this happened once before a few years ago and I didn’t document how I fixed it.

I’ve deleted everything that said Tutorials in Pages. I don’t have any menus set up in Appearances > Menus right now but here’s a screenshot as requested: http://imgur.com/1lNGspV
I experimented in my theme of adding a second menu for Categories, and it doesn’t have this weirdness but I don’t have very many interesting categories so it’s a lame 2nd menu that I’ll be getting rid of.

In reply to: Media Library won’t upload imagesI’m with Andrew – stuck with no images showing using the image upload button. File permissions on uploads folder on down are set to 777, did the .htaccess dance described above.
first noticed this when Headway Themes Image Gallery wouldn’t work so testing plain WordPress image upload and having it fail proved it wasn’t my theme…or did it?
