Yeah, that’s what I thought. The guy I do the work for is an SEO specialist, and the guy who told him this information apparently doesn’t say these sorts of things lightly – but every developer I have asked has said it sounds like nonsense. It would imply deranking hundreds of thousands of sites for no reason. Oh well.

Not as far as I’ve seen mate, sometimes you might find a specific theme that would allow this, but in general category pages are just there as a mapping device for your content.
