 * Thank you for your quick response! The problem was entirely my own confusion,
but I understand now. I’m still new to website construction, and for some reason
thought that I should start with a non-wiki page or with the main wiki directory,
but now I have created a new wiki page (PhD Thesis Wiki) and added that to my
   main navigation menu.

 * Thank you for the suggestion to update my theme. I liked the way the old theme
looked visually, but I updated to a newer theme that is similar in appearance(
Weaver II). This really has helped immensely. The old theme made it difficult
to remove the blog-like elements (time stamps, breadcrumbs, etc.) but with the
new theme, this is easily accomplished, so my wiki looks less like a blog.
 * The blank starts of page were occurring in the old theme when I linked to a post
that I hadn’t yet created. I’m pretty sure this was just a problem with the old
theme, since it appears to work well now.
 * Thanks for creating this plugin and for the help! This is great and exactly what
   I was looking for!
