Okay, this is NOT a plugin problem. And there is no such plugin as “crazy-lazy” on the Website. And we did not add anything to 100+ Websites. The code appeared MAGICALLY with the WordPress 4.9.5 update. Imagine that.

Here is what the generated code looked like with WordPress 4.9.4.

AGAIN: We changed nothing. We installed nothing. We deleted nothing. WordPress autoupdated from 4.9.4. to 4.9.5 and BAM! images munged.

    (@sffandom)

Someone changed the generated code. I am not going to spin my wheels just because you have to ask everyone to run down a standard checklist. There should be a record of who changed the generated code for embedded images ( not attachments). Find that and you will have your bug.

    Thread Starter sffandom

    (@sffandom)

Not happening. We changed nothing on over 100 sites. We installed nothing. We removed nothing. The generated HTML code is different from what was there in 4.9.4.

And yet magically you and they continue to bump up this discussion with unnecessary commentary. Accept the negative feedback graciously and improve your theme. Don’t argue with the people who find that it doesn’t perform as well as others.

I would block the Russian services by IP address (CIDR blocks).

    Thread Starter sffandom

    (@sffandom)

And tell Bruce that sending more shills here just makes him look even more stupid. You people need to fix your damn theme and stop arguing with the universe.

    Thread Starter sffandom

    (@sffandom)

Given that other themes preserve the widget data when going from HTTP to HTTPS and Weaver Xtreme never does, it is CLEARLY theme-related. You missed something. And instead of chasing down the issue and seeing what you can do about it you’re arguing with someone who is reporting the problem.

If you think THAT is great customer support, I assure you, it’s not.

And, again, forcing people to deal with a nagging modal window is a SUB-PAR user experience. You should be taking this feedback as good reason to change what you’re doing because what you’re doing IS pissing off some of your once strong supporters.

    Thread Starter sffandom

    (@sffandom)

Given that many requests for help have gone unanswered for weeks or months on ww.wp.xz.cn, the site where people are downloading the theme, I would say your “unbiased” feedback is missing some pertinent information.

This is the site where people are asking for help. And if, like me, they have trouble signing up for the forum (for whatever reason), then this is the only site where some people CAN ask for help.

And given the LACK OF SUPPORT that entails, reasonable people should see where my frustration comes in.

I have to support Weaver Xtreme on dozens of Websites. I am removing it from them as soon as I can find suitable replacements (allowing for design preferences on each site). Weaver Xtreme’s latest faux pas, the nagging dialog that won’t go away if the Jetpack mobile theme is activated, is just one of many examples of poor user experience.

The fact I have to constantly save the settings, and then they don’t carry over from an HTTP to HTTPS version of the site, is also annoying as hell. I really have having to save all the widget data externally and then reconfiguring them when I convert sites to HTTPS.

The list of problems with the theme just goes on and on. Yes, it’s a FREE version and that entitles no one to much of anything. But people deserve to know about some of the problems that OTHER THEMES AVOID.

I will stop using and promoting this plugin if you add reCAPTCHAs without making them optional. That’s a TERRIBLE solution. Spammers have been able to contract with services in Bangladesh and India for years that get past the puzzles.

Don’t have time to respond to all of your replies, so I hope this will suffice.

I tried using two browsers to create an account on your forum (Chrome and Edge). Neither worked. No idea of what happened. Sometimes rebooting my computer helps but I am in the middle of a major project and I don’t have time budgeted for filing and assisting with bug reports.

Second, my frustration is mostly with the popup. I don’t care what your reason for issuing the alert was. You did it in the worst way possible. I had to fight with the browser on multiple sites to get to the Jetpack settings because the popup won’t go away.

Had it not been for the popup I would not have made any complaints at all. So my frustration is directed squarely and solely where it needs to be. I suggest you take the feedback in good faith.

    (@sffandom)

And a little more information. I have found a FEW older sites where the Jetpack mobile theme was mysteriously activated even though the sites were using different themes (all mobile friendly). It appears that Weaver Xtreme is not activating the Jetpack mobile theme but the nagging popup is only appearing on sites where Weaver Xtreme is installed and active.

Although Weaver Xtreme does not appear to be at fault for activating the Jetpack mobile theme it does appear to be responsible for the unnecessary popup dialog. WordPress has a built-in alert system that allows a plugin or theme to display a message across the top of the admin dashboard. They should have used that method instead of the popup.

I am not revising my critical review of Weaver Xtreme and we will stop using it on these sites as soon as is practical.

    Thread Starter sffandom

    (@sffandom)

I wrote previously: “What’s worse is that deactivating the Jetpack mobile theme has no effect. The popup comes back and when we check the Jetpack dashboard again the mobile theme is active again.”

Through experimentation I have found that if I wait a few seconds AFTER Jetpack says its settings have been updated the nag dialog box stops reappearing. I would guess about a 3-second delay is working for us. But these sites are on different hosting accounts. I cannot guarantee that every site affected by this problem will fix the issue with as short a waiting period.

This still doesn’t explain WHY the Jetpack mobile theme is being activated when it should not be. The conflict could be the fault of Weaver Xtreme, Jetpack, WordPress, or some other plugin for all I know. But the problem is coming from Weaver Xtreme because its dialog box won’t go away. Getting into the Jetpack settings dashboard is not easy. And I am still not sure this isn’t due to a hack, except that it’s happening on multiple sites on multiple hosting accounts. That would be a pretty widespread hack unless Weaver Xtreme itself were hacked.

My gut instinct says this is not a hack but I’m still fixing sites. I may change my mind.

Final note for the night. I have checked several other sites where we used WP-OPTIMIZE and they did not lose their theme settings. I have no idea of what triggered the loss of theme settings on several sites, but they all use Weaver Xtreme, they all had the latest version, and we did not do anything to the theme settings in February.

    Thread Starter sffandom

    (@sffandom)

As I review sites I find that some have not been reset. I am not sure but I think it may be connected to whether the old theme settings were saved in the WordPress database. If we saved them in the database (I think) then the old theme settings were retained. (ON EDIT: Nope. See below.)

On at least one multisite only the root host’s theme was lost. Subdomain theme settings were retained.

    ON EDIT:

Okay, found a site where the settings were not saved and the theme remained intact through the update.

We used a plugin, WP-Optimize, on some of these sites to clean up the database. That is the only recent change on these sites that I can think of (since the February 18 update). There is no detectable pattern so far. We have not been working on these sites very much in February.
