The plugins are absolutely useless and show basically only a title. I would like to show a random post. Not a random post title. There is a difference. Additionally, plugins only seem to operate in a sidebar where, I suppose, a random post title would be wanted.

Yeah, whatever. This is a fairly simple request; however, WP requires website owners to become programmers. I would think that there would be a button on the administrator’s panel that would allow this.

Found the problem. Got it working.

BTW, Will assigning a Page Template to a WP Page also allow me to run Javascript or Ajax (or anything I want?)

“Learning curve” is much different than “some assembly required.”

Learning WP consists of mastering its inherent operations, its admin panel, for instance, which is WordPress’ seat. Basically, the learning curve for WordPress is about 30 minutes. It’s learning how to operate WP as a functional program.

Some assembly required means such things as having to install code in a WordPress template because the essential functionality to recognize other certain code isn’t within the primary vehicle. Some assembly required means having to construct things like “a custom template” and do a couple more tasks to make the primary vehicle work properly. Some assembly required extends beyond Javascript to Ajax to PHP–all of which require some sort of additional tinkering if one is to incorporate any of it in a page (PHP being kind of the exception because some third-party plugins are available that make the task somewhat more automated, but the fact remains that someone had to assemble these because WordPress didn’t easily offer the needed functionality). But my point is clear … some assembly required … that’s WordPress.

I didn’t say WordPress isn’t functional. It is. I didn’t say it isn’t useful. It is. I didn’t say it isn’t better than other options … it has a lot of advantages. Another useful analogy might be particle-board furniture, which is also useful and very popular–but like WordPress, there is some assembly required. Just because particle-board furniture populates many American homes … just because many people who buy and assemble this furniture don’t find it particularly troublesome doesn’t alter the fact that it requires some assembly.

It’s a pain the _ _ _. Working with WordPress is analogous to buying a stripped-down car. If someone wants an airbag or maybe a horn or some seatbelts, they’re required to install these pieces themselves. Pretty ridiculous. Really WordPress?.

That worked! I just had the name of the file.php in action. I entered the entire URL, and it works fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!

Perhaps we differ on matter of emphasis.

Just as the United States is not this coherent “thing” in and of itself, neither is WordPress. WordPress, in part, is a blogging system that doubles as a CMS. It is also a community. It is also a huge library of plugins and widgets. Finally, it is a massive amount of tutorials going back several years. Finally, like it or not, it is connected by Google.

I might not be terribly familiar with WordPress, but I do understand what it means for something to work “out-of-the-box.” And I am very aware when something I pay for such as a template or a widget or a plugin off of Code Canyon or some widget with a Pro Version that I pay to get an upgrade conflicts with some other what-not. When it comes to working out-of-the-box … that ain’t WordPress. As I mentioned above, so-called commercial templates may or may not work with so-called proven plugins. It’s really hit and miss. The forums are generally helpful, but they are slow. And when they aren’t slow … they shore ain’t very helpful one-hunerd percent o’ the time. I’m simply amazed WordPress can’t run HTML or PHP natively from a page or post. This is a huge oversight and really hampers its versatility. Finally, searching Google for WordPress tutorials is an absolute mess because Google, for all its wonders, dishes out a huge pile of articles that range in age from 4 to 8 years. When it comes to technology, this type of information is not helpful. Not at all.

I’m not a Joomla troll, so I won’t get into Joomla. “It” (software, extensions, community, etc) has its own sets of strengths and faults.

Yes, I hear everyone when they say WordPress is amazing and elegant. Perhaps at its core of cores and in its potential, yes, but to really bother with it, a person has to become half programmer, half artist, half internet researcher, and half wise-and-patient sage. The United States might be a wonderful thing, but when it comes to certain specifics, it can also be a frustrating, complicated, downright mess.

    As can WordPress.

Because Particpants Database overflows the boundaries of my template, and CF7DE has no CSS formatting. So I was going to simply use CF7DE for what it’s good for … sticking stuff into a database and performing reliably with its shortcodes … and use my program to display the information. Good luck with that because the database for CF7DE couldn’t be more wonky (even if there is a page in the user manual justifying the layout).

    So much for standardization.

I actually got confused by the admin panel and did not realize that below the line on my browser there was a short-code creator for html-option.

So everything is working as expected. It just comes through with no formatting whatsoever. Although this seems like a good plugin, I was actually looking for an out-of-the-box solution that has at least some formatting or some examples I could modify or something.

Since I have a form that fills the database, it doesn’t matter what I have to display it.

Error: [cfdb-html] has empty Template. It will not output anything.

Thanks … this however, didn’t show anything. The images in the database are not links (no http://) but image file names.

I tried several templates and this plugin worked with about half of them. With the ones it doesn’t work with, the text spills beyond the boundaries of the page.

I have tried other plugins, and they work consistently across the board. Why is that? Is it something I can change in the Participant’s CSS or something with the template?

    Ignore this… resolved.
