These options are much better! My preference is to have SH tucked away in the tools menu…

I agree with this problem, however there is already an optoin to hide SH plugin in settings :

Show History
* On the dashboard
* as a page under the dashboard menu
* in the Admin bar

The second option is not working, the plugin always appears below the dashboard menu item whether this setting is set to on or off.

This option used to work prior to version 5.5.0

You are of course completely correct, another plugin was indeed causing this. I thought I had inactivated the Simple History plugin to temporarily disable the feature, but it was the plugin below it in the list – Doh!

Simple History plugin is working very well otherwise and is very useful.
