In reply to: Static homepage displaying Index filesThank you. There is not a index.html in public_html directory / website root, I just checked again to make sure.
What changes I did make after the installation, I’ve removed. When I changed something and it did not work, I removed the change/changed it back to the default settings.
I am truly stumped. Thank you so much for your help.

In reply to: Static homepage displaying Index filesThank you for the suggestion. The Permalinks setting was set to be static and named my Home page, but I saved it just to rewrite the file and unfortunately that did not work.
Thank you for this suggestion. I searched for all files that contained index.html and this is the result. Should I delete one or both of these? All other index files are .php.
