Yes, periodically copying to a static file would be a workaround, but not a very good one. It would greatly increase the lag time before newsreaders saw new articles.
I think a real page caching system would help solve this — is that in the cards for 1.2?Forum: Plugins

I am using 1.0.2 and have not started looking at 1.2 stuff yet, so I didn’t know about plugins. I’ll definitely add the plugin header to make life easier for you bleeding-edge types.Forum: Fixing WordPress

etc.
(Of course I realize this causes problems if there are duplicate post titles in a category; but I’m willing to live with that.
I’m learning my way around PHP, so if someone wants to give clues on working around the issues that rboren mentioned above, I’m all ears.
