exactly – create events on sub site and show it on main site is what I did and it worked out of the box with events manager. My test setup is a clean multisite installation with two sub sites. After installing the EM plugin I’ve followed up the instructions of the documentation (MULTISITE) to “Network acitivate” the plugin and enalbe the “Global Tables Mode”. That’s it – now I can create events on any sub site and thy will be visible on this sub site AND on the main site.
For your second question I have no answer because till now I have no experiences about the search box.
