Ok, it turns out it was a carry over from a theme I used before that somehow continued to impact the site after it was long gone. I wound up having to uninstall and reinstall WP, but then it worked without a problem. Thanks for your help!

I can see what you are saying, however, (if you click to my site again) you’ll see I just disabled all plugins and reverted to the twenty-ten theme and the problem still is happening. Theoretically there should be nothing interfering with the site now. I really have only a small number of plugins loaded (buddypress,captcha,manual author input, ultimate GA) Of those, this problem was evident before their installation.
Is it possible that a theme could have made a change to the structure of the site that lasts beyond its installation? (i.e. would reloading WordPress be needed to “reset” the problem?)
