never mind, I just edited the output of post-template.php in wp-includes

not perfect, but not that hard. I will just keep a copy of the output markup around to update that file if upgrading wp.

    thanks anyway!

but that is the point — HE DOESN’T WORK IN CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

there IS no customer support here.

Especially since no support is implied anywhere.

I’ve found that if you ask nicely, most of the time, someone helps out. There are some really great developers who DO listen and help here.

On the other hand, I’ve certainly asked questions that get no answers at all. C’est la vie…

Most of THOSE times, it’s because I am trying to do something VERY funky!

the wp-pro list has affordable professional help that I’ve hired before and had great results from… but expect to pay a reasonable amount for their time, it’s worth it in every case I’ve experienced.

    Good luck with it!

THANK YOU. Most useful! I’ll add that to my list of must-use plugins — add them before USING wp.

My main complaint — and I DO get to complain if I want to — has to do with the lack of foresight by the developers who planned and executed the feature.

Any such “feature” should have a way A) to disable it and/or B) to remove the old, older and oldest revisions if desired without having to resort to running an SQL in phpMyAdmin.

It would have been fairly simple to add a checkbox by each revision and a delete button to remove any checked revision using pretty much the same sql as provided for all of us “complainers” to use.
However… while I feel fairly comfortable doing that, many, many –including the person I was helping — don’t. Such feedback provides the developers insight into making the product BETTER, since it claims to be easy to use for the general public.

If you think that basic statement on GOOD programming and GOOD user interface is a complaint, then you must be invested in the feature is all I can say. Whether I pay for the software or not is irrelevant. I pay in hours spent sussing out WTF is going on when it goes wrong.

I don’t HAVE to live with the “way it is” dude. I CAN provide feedback in the EXTEND portion of this site and I have. Your attitude is rude and smartass and far from helpful, so if you don’t have more to offer, shut up.

yep, thanks all. Got it fixed with a plugin and the sql run on the db.

But that still doesn’t change the fact that whomever decided this was a good idea didn’t think it through. What… we’re going to save all 20 revisions if that’s what builds up?

And a keyword search returns 20 versions, 19 of the links resulting in “sorry, not here”?

Silliness, pure and simple. Now I know to FIX it before adding content to a site. I didn’t realize what was happening until refining the search functions.

This just needs to be fixed. Fine, if you want to leave it, but put a freaking check box next to each revision and a DELETE button that allows an author to go in and get rid of this crap without having to edit a database!

Ridiculous idea anyway, imo… just a way to puff up a db for no good reason… especially without making it easy for non-programmers to fix.

Talk about bogging down web services… what WERE they thinking?

would like to know this as well, since SEARCH also turns up those revisions and clicking those links return a “page not found” result.

Anyone? Surely this isn’t too difficult for the gurus out there? I’m open to alternatives if my approach is just wack.

    Ideas? TIA!

yeah, still buggy as hell for me in v.2.6, even trying all the suggested methods to “fix” it….

I rather liked the old upload functions better, but I don’t see why WordPress can’t just do a “file manager” approach to allowing uploads in general…?

An general admin page that displays the directory of the designated upload folder — then below it, displays any image (a thumbnail preview) in that folder.

on write/manage page/post, a collapsible block that displays existing images in that folder with a click on function to insert into page/post, per earlier methods for adding images.

I don’t like having uploads of media be on every page and the whole display of the images, etc just ISN’T working in any of my many 2.5.1, 2.6 installs of WordPress. It’s just BROKEN and even if it were working, it’s kind of lame in function.

I want to see EVERY image in my upload folder to be able to select any of them in any post or page I am working on. I don’t expect to upload from the page or post itself — a general location to do uploads would work for me.

    Forum: Plugins
    In reply to: Newsletter Plugin

the Shifthis newsletter plugin has some good features. (I’m struggling with it right now) but the support purely sucks, even though Marcus re-opened the forum, there’s no real help there and he doesn’t seem to reply that much, especially to the hard stuff.

My biggest issue with is, after figuring out how to get the mailed html email to work as desired is that the documentation of import/export of subscribers (import because you have a huge csv of email addresses you want to add) is less than useful.

I look at the example given and compare that with what I export with 3 test subscribers and the examples don’t match. Heck, it’s different for even the 3 test rows. SIGH.

I tried phplist and the wp plugin that works with it but it won’t send the html formatted in a way that my own email program even displays it… (Thunderbird) and I do have “original html” turned on.

sigh. I’ll just figure out how to use a bit of sql to write to the table, I guess.

Anyone know where Marcus (of Shiftthis.net) is these days? I cannot get any answers and frankly, the plugin isn’t working as expected when it comes to unsubscribe functions.

I’m using the latest version (for php5) and WordPress 2.5.1, should Marcus care to respond. I’ve left many a message on his site and though there are links to a forum, it only goes to an error page.

I don’t want to be a whiner, really. But this is a COMMERCIAL plugin and it seems like there ought to be some sort of recourse, if only to shame this person into refunding the purchase price to everyone who bought the plugin… nevermind the work one has put into trying to make it work as advertised.

Try clicking the Add Media Insert Image button. In the dialog that comes up, there is, at the top of the popup dialog, “From Computer”, a “Choose Files to Upload” button, and some text that says “After a file has been uploaded, you can add titles and descriptions.”

This is what you do first. Afterwards, you can use the tools below to select images already uploaded for insertion.

I think the answer is to use an different excerpt plugin that works for pages and that doesn’t delete or not display the excerpt if you edit or set the page status to draft.

This one seems to work and puts the excerpt field on the manage/write Page admin screen.
