I’ve resolved this issue. The error message I was getting previously was due to the following setting in WordPress:
*Site Address (URL):* http://wordpresslannn.sytes.net
I’ve changed this to point to my local machine and can now launch the site from the WordPress dashboard.

Requesting http://localhost/ returns my AMPPS directory list. In this list I can see my wordpress directory:
wordpress.localhost/
When I access this directory, my browser (Chrome) opens my website fine.
When I enter the following URL in my browser:
http://localhost/wordpress.localhost/wp-admin
, the browser returns my wordpress dashboard.
If I then select “visit site” from the dashboard, I get the “http://wordpresslannn.sytes.net/” error shown previously.
