I resolved the problem, although I am not certain which of the two actions was the relevent one.
First, I de-activated WP-Statistics plugin (which was installed and running). I suspect this was NOT the problem, I re-activated it afterwards and it did not appear to create a conflict with JetPack.
Second, when JetPack gave me the ‘Server Error’, I logged out of my site, and logged back in. It worked fine after that. It seems that the JetPack install did not recognize my login for some reason….
i had this exact same problem today on my WordPress site running on IXWebHosting. I used FTP to change the name of the folder from JetPack to xJetpack, and the site recovered, albiet with an error..
The plugin jetpack/jetpack.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.
I am uninstalling it now – it does show on the uninstall menu.
Sounds like a great tool, if I can get it to run….
