In reply to: [Customizr] How can you search for information in sidebarsI don’t think I’ve made myself clear.
I’m not talking about an Internet search. I’m talking about the site search that searches only my website.
Go to http://www.decorahlutheran.com
and at the bottom left of the page you will find a ‘search’ box. Its purpose is to serch just decorahlutheran.com. That’s the search I am concerned with.
Since it is able to search all the pages I was hoping that it would also be able to search the widgets that are displayed on the pages. It is certainly a possibility since the database knows which widgets to display, but I now see that I should probably be corresponding with the Strategy11 folks about their ‘Display Widgets’ plugin since they must know how the database determines which widgets are displayed.Forum: Themes and Templates

In reply to: [Customizr] How can you search for information in sidebarsNo it does not. That’s my issue.
I have some widgets appearing on several pages, and so far the information in those widgets has failed to appear in searches.
I would (obviously, I think) like the pages that are displaying the appropriate widgets to appear in the search results.
I have a cumbersome workaround where I place appropriate key words at the bottom of a page and make them invisible by setting the font color appropriately, but it is a nuisance at best and easliy could get ‘out of date’.To see what I’m doing go to this page and then press [CTRL]A

In reply to: [Customizr] How can you search for information in sidebarsThanks EF.
I don’t have any problem manipulating the widgets. It’s just that when I do a site search the information in them apparently does not get searched (and I would like it to)That’s a thought. I think I’ll give it a whirl.
I really appreciate your time and efforts with this. My programming experience started with BASIC and Assembly back in the ’70s and I have always found myself more suited to that type of programming. The higher the level the less comfortable I am.

Thanks! That’s one more line than we had a few minutes ago!
Of course, we were hoping to leverage that space to include other information (address, phone number, etc.) so a number of lines would be needed.
Unfortunately there’s some resistance on the part of our committee to having much of a menu on the front page and that has led to this attempt to ‘make it our own’. I may just have to press hard to have a menu item or two in that space that bring up pages with the desired information.

Thanks SO MUCH for your reply! i wondered if I was just going about this in the wrong way.
If you take a look at decorahlutheran.com I believe you will see in the ‘Tagline’ at the upper right of the page what I was attempting to do using paragraph tags. I am attempting to display the Tagline as multiple (controlled) lines, and I would also like to have those lines be left-justified.
I’m not all that concerned with the ‘Featured Text’ items.
Thanks,
JimHi everyone,
As is possibly obvious by my initial question I am really new to WordPress. This is my first attempt at designing a website this way.
Could someone please respond to my request and at least let me know if this is a silly question or if it is a legitimate one? I see nearly immediate responses to lots of the questions and I’m curious if I’m trying to do the impossible or if I just need more knowledge of how WordPress, CSS, and HTML work.
Thanks,
JimForum: Themes and Templates
