Just to say I just found that Jetpack had a new update this evening… I don’t quite understand what they’re saying but it seems that Jetpack may have been the culprit: http://jetpack.me/2013/07/26/jetpack-2-3-3/
At any rate, after I’d updated Jetpack I re-installed BackUpWordPress and everything’s working fine.
I had the same issue… thanks to Travis Pflanz whose advice helped me get my website working again (without BackUpWordPress).
I have Askimet and Jetpack installed.
I too will be leaving BackUpWordPress deactivated until the conflict is resolved.
