I managed to do it. Unfortunately, the Used for variations / Visible on product page naming is quite illogical.
I wanted to use 1 and 2 for variations. These variations have images in common. But variation 3 is just an optional number. IMAGE.
What settings did I use to solve it?
Both options must be ticked for the products to be varied. For non-variable, only Visible on product

Unfortunately, it disappeared after the update. Just a blank page.
I had to downgrade to an earlier version 3.6.29. Otherwise I am very happy with this modul. It works now.
Does the paid version have a user-friendly solution to these problems?
