Fix for this issue:
Create an additional (free and infinite) membership on which users on registration will automatically be added to. Now the upgrade towards a paid membership will work.
I still experience an issue with the redirect after payment (to homepage), but this is a new problem and I have posted this on the pronamic forum itself. For more info: http://pronamic.nl/forums/topic/pronamic-membership-pro-ongewenste-redirect-naar-homepage-na-betaling/

Edit:
I first thought it was working, but it really isn’t. I don’t see iDeal in the list of payment gateways in the membership plugin. It does show the pay with iDeal button behind the subscription, and it actually processes the payment up until the test bank (its in Mollie sandbox mode). After returning successfull payment, the membership is not added to the user account, so somewhere the connection between payment succesfull and add to subscription is not being made by the plugin.
