In reply to: category id problemI hadn’t thought of that. My install was using an old database going right back to b2. Tables created in 1.0 or later very well might not include a value for post_category.

In reply to: 1.2-epsilon-RC1 Does NOT Ping ServicesHow is sniping at MT trollish? I thought the entire blogosphere was doing it right now.

In reply to: Creating separate archives page?Is it simply a matter of creating a separate page, named as an example: archives.php and plugging the archives function on it?
Yes. Take your index.php file, get rid of the post loop and replace it with an archive call, save the new file as archives.php. You can do the same thing with links, if your blogroll is getting unwieldy.

In reply to: 1.2-epsilon-RC1 Does NOT Ping ServicesIf not fixed in a release candidate I would not expect to see it fixed in a release. Just chill. This is free software – unlike some others I could mention – so don’t expect everything to be perfect.

In reply to: category id problemdid you try the ‘true’ thing? I’m confused. It was working for me in the nightly, but maybe it’s been taken out of the release candidate?

In reply to: Single post navigationI imagine a lot of MT switchers will be wanting this functionality. Any chance of making this post sticky?

In reply to: Please help…I am not sure people completely new to blogging should be recommended to use CVS. 1.2 is due out very soon, why not wait till then?

In reply to: Unrest among MTers expect a little flood towards WThe entire fourth paragraph on the documentation home page is devoted to the wiki.
Yes. I thought the fact it was fourth was telling us something.

In reply to: Three Column Downloadable Design? There are some nice designs, but AFAIK only 1 three-col one. If he doesn’t like that he’s stuck 😉

In reply to: Unrest among MTers expect a little flood towards W@eric: the suggestion of making a prominent link to the Wiki has been made before. Matt never explained why he chose not to do so but my guess would be the ‘unofficial’ nature of the information in it. Anyone can add to the Wiki – as long as they can get it to recognise their username – so the quality of the ‘documentation’ on there is variable. It is also a bit chaotic and hard to find stuff in there, so its never been a recommended source for newbies.

In reply to: Three Column Downloadable Design?I believe Alex added one three-column stylesheet, but you may have to find an alternative template and add the function calls yourself.

In reply to: Unrest among MTers expect a little flood towards WAgreed, people do not have an absolute obligation to make things better for everyone by searching before they ask questions, or by giving help to the community in their turn. But I would like to think they have a moral obligation. Sadly I suspect that there will be people switching to WordPress purely and simply because they don’t have to pay for it. People with no understanding of the Open Source ethos that has made WordPress what it is. People who will exploit the hard work of the developers and the community for their own monetary gain. I hope I’m wrong.

In reply to: Unrest among MTers expect a little flood towards WYeah, if some of the people who have done plugins for MT start coding hacks for WordPress that would be good. What I am worried about is that we will get a bunch of people wanting something for nothing – taking the free software, demanding free support, and giving nothing back. 🙁
