@yllew thanks for reaching out about this.
I’ve already reached out to our team to examine this and anticipate a fix to appear in the next release of the plugin. Meantime for the fastest way to resolve this we recommend deactivating the plugin and restoring the older version.
If you cannot access the site or restore from a backup, then you might need to deactivate the plugin via FTP. You can follow below steps to manually delete the plugin:
– Download and install FTP client like Filezilla.
– Open FTP client and enter your FTP access credentials (host, username and password) to access files on your server.
– Navigate under /wp-content/plugins folder.
– You can rename the Charitable folder to something like charitable-old or delete it entirely since you might be replacing it. For other methods, you can examine this page which contains alt methods to deactivate plugins:https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-easily-deactivate-wordpress-plugins/
You can visit this page to select “1.6.60” from “previous versions”:
https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/charitable/advanced/
You can then download and add this older version of the plugin to your site.
Please let me know how it goes or if you have further questions.
We have gotten a few request over the past few months for Captchs, and while we don’t have an official recommendation at this time we are considering an integration option or enhancement related to this.
What kind of fraud charges are you getting exactly? Depending on the fraud, a Captcha might not be the best solution. You are using Authorize.Net – you might also reach out to them to determine if the fraud can be detected on their end.
Going to consider this resolved but feel free to reach out for any further assistance!
@klpinney that depends on what exactly happened, but I would check with the Paypal account first to see if the donations made it. IF they did – and they reached Charitable (but as failed donations) then you should be able to adjust the status of the failed donation in Charitable to “paid”. If Paypal didn’t collect, then you would have to of course reach out to your donors.
And of course, confirm the email addresses so the error doesn’t come up again.
If you want to feel free to let us know what happened, in case we can help out further, great.
Thanks for reaching out.
WPCharitable usually returns that message when Paypal when email being returned in Instant Payment Notification (IPN) doesn’t match the Paypal email in Charitable settings. You might see “IPN data:” and then some information next to this if you see this next to the reported error in the donation log. I would start off if you can confirm BOTH. Chartiable usually denotes a failure on the donation if these do not match.
Since we have not heard back, we are marking this as resolved. If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to let us know!
Glad you were able to resolve this issue @ralonzo29!
@yvonnephoto: Based on what you have described, it sounds like you have had several donations go through and processed on PayPal, but not updated to Paid in Charitable. Is that right?
Have you had other donations go through successfully and marked as Paid in between?
For the pending donations, in the WordPress dashboard, check what shows in the Donation Log meta box for those donations; sometimes that has more information about why the donation is still pending.
Cheers,
EricHi @jkpvs14,
Would you mind posting a link to your donation form here? The CSS required depends on how the theme is set up.

EricHi @angelam2020,
Sure, it’s possible; just requires a little bit of code.
What you have to do is create a new “currency” in the site. Here’s an example showing how you can add an “Hours” currency:
https://github.com/Charitable/library/blob/master/general/add-hours-currency.php
We have a guide available at https://www.wpcharitable.com/documentation/3-ways-to-add-code-customizations-to-your-site/ showing how to add code like this to your site.
Cheers,
EricHi @jayrenn,
Charitable has basic spam prevention in place with a honeypot field, but we don’t really have a more advanced approach available. We’re planning to integrate support for some kind of captcha in the future, but obviously that won’t help you right now.
Just to be clear though, do you mean you’re getting spam registrations through the Registration form (i.e. [charitable_register]) or spam donations through the donation form?
Could you also include a link to your site?
Cheers,
EricWe released an update to Reach today which should resolve the issue with Revolution Slider.
Glad you like the theme!
Cheers,
EricYou’re right, this is basically broken at the moment. I have posted an issue about this at https://github.com/Charitable/Charitable/issues/209 and we’ll make sure we fix this in a release soon.
Cheers,
EricI’m sorry about this issue. I’m not 100% sure when this bug crept in, but the problem appears to be specifically with sites that don’t use English as the site language. We’ll have a fix for this in our next release, version 1.4.2. Planning to release that early next week, but if you’d like to get a hold of the current development version, you can download it from https://github.com/Charitable/Charitable/archive/master.zip
Cheers,
EricHi Zoha,
I already replied to your support email separately, but just posting this here for anyone else wondering the same thing: I’m not sure how tbdonations works, but with Charitable, donations should automatically be marked as complete when the payment is processed in PayPal.
Cheers,
EricHi Angie,
Could you let me know if you are still having problems with this?
Cheers,
Eric
