I just installed WP Super Cache 1.6.5. Couldn’t get back into the site:

    CHROME:
This site can’t be reached The webpage at *** might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
    ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED

    FIREFOX:
    Content Encoding Error
An error occurred during a connection to ***
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

I uploaded my backup of WP Super Cache 1.6.4 and deleted all cached files via SFTP.

    Now the site works.

    I’m running:

    Wordpress 5.2
    Classic Editor 1.5
    Jetpack 7.3.0

Did you see any errors in your PHP error log?

It has been several days, but I think I located the appropriate information.

mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ”Super Cache dynamic page dete’ (T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE) in /home/useridhere/domain.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/wp-super-cache/wp-cache-phase2.php on line 1915, referer: https://www.google.com/

I think the plugin didn’t update properly on your site. Can you completely uninstall and install it again?

    (@ksssss)

I’ll do that this weekend when traffic is lighter and let you know how it went.

If I completely uninstall, will my previous settings be saved in the database?

Plugin Author Donncha O Caoimh (a11n)

    (@donncha)

No, you should copy wp-content/wp-cache-config.php somewhere else before uninstalling the plugin.
There are a few settings in the database that will be lost but it won’t take long to configure if you save the config file.

Rather than save the config file, I did screen prints of each WP Super Cache settings tab, deactivated, deleted, and then reconfigured.

A lot more work than I wanted to tackle, but it works fine now.

    Thanks, Donncha!

Nope, I take back the previous message. The content encoding error showed up again. I uploaded 1.6.4 as before, and now it works.

Can you disable “compress pages…” on the advanced settings page?

    Thread Starter Kay

    (@ksssss)

That appears to work, Donncha. Compressed pages functioned fine in 1.6.4, though, so something has changed in 1.6.5.

    Thanks for your followup!
