If you had some issues with the full version of the plugin, this forum is not the place to discuss it, as the rules of the forum do not allow support for the full version.
Anyway, there are a lot of issues with all WordPress plugins and new WordPress 5.5 (and now 5.5.1). However, wpDataTables is ready and has been ready for the update even before it was released. If you’re seeing fatal errors on your website, in 90% of the time it’s a conflict with some other plugin. All plugins need to be updated, and if you have some plugins which are not frequently updated, they can cause these conflicts. Deleting cache also resolves the issue sometimes. We cannot say what happened on your installation, since you didn’t reach out to our support team. If you have the full version of the plugin, you could’ve opened a ticket on our official support platform, and our support managers would’ve gladly helped about this.
No changes were made in regard to responsiveness on mobiles, so again we can assume the issue is a conflict with some other plugin you have installed.
You can try updating all your plugins to the latest versions, make sure cache is deleted and make sure to install Enable jQuery Migrate Helper plugin, as jquery-migrate is removed from WP 5.5, and it can cause a lot of issues.
