1.1.1 Bugs:
-
Thanks Yoast – News Sitemaps are back up and running with 1.1.1!
However, some bugs as enumerated below. This is using current versions at time of writing (WordPress SEO 1.4.5, WordPress SEO News 1.1.1).
- stock_tickers only appears under certain circumstances
If you fill in a value for “Stock Tickers” in the appropriate field in the WordPress SEO “Google News” tab, the value appears as anticipated in the <stock_tickers> field in the news sitemap entry for that URL – if and only if there’s a “Stock Tickers” value for all items that appear in the sitemap. If any one article does not have an entry for the “Stock Tickers” box, then <stock_tickers> will not appear for any article in the news sitemap. A bizarre bug indeed! - “Default Keywords” not functioning
If you fill in a value for “Stock Tickers” in the appropriate field in the WordPress SEO “Google News” tab, it has no impact. The default keyword appears neither in the <news:keywords> field of the sitemap, nor in the content attribute of the <meta name=”news_keywords”> tag in the article itself. - Tags appear in sitemap but not in news_keywords meta tag
In an undocumented feature, it appears as though tags for an article are automatically added to the <news:keywords> field of the news sitemap. However, while manually entered keywords (values for “Meta News Keywords” in the appropriate field in the WordPress SEO “Google News” tab) are added to the <meta name=”news_keywords”> tag for the article, tags are not. So one is left with the choice of having tags omitted from the <meta name=”news_keywords”> (if values are not filled in for “Meta News Keywords”) or duplicating values that appear in the <news:keywords> field of the news sitemap (if tag names are filled in for “Meta News Keywords”). Obviously this would be better if tags either populated both <meta name=”news_keywords”> and <news:keywords> or neither – right now there’s no workaround.
