2 Problems: Russian bots & Locked Out

Hello,

I have 2 problems and could use some help. First, I am inexperienced with Word Press but I have a simple website so I have gotten by for years.

The 1st problem is that I am now locked out even though I typed the correct password. The exact message is, “You have been locked out due to too many login attempts.” I got it on the very first attempt to log in. What should I do about this?

The last time I was in my dashboard, I installed iThemes Brute Force Protection Network. Afterwards, I received an email with an API key but haven’t done anything with it because I don’t know what it is. Could this be part of the problem?

2nd problem is with my Contact form. I have been getting a boatload of nonsense emails from Russian bots (some of the emails are in Russian) and I’d like to stop seeing them. Is there a way I can set up my contact form to prevent these emails from being sent? Everything about them is gibberish, literally.

Try changing your password directly in the database: https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Resetting_Your_Password#Through_phpMyAdmin

You’ll find phpMyAdmin in your hosting account’s control panel.

Thank you, James. I suspect this is tied to the iThemes Brute Force protection so I sent them an email and on Monday, I was contact my host provider about the phpMyAdmin.

I appreciate the help!

Hello, I was finally let back into my dashboard. I promptly deactivated iThemes Brute Force.

I use Contact Form 7 for my Contact page. Everyday, I get 5-15 emails of pure garbage allegedly sent from my contact form. Some of it is in Russian. Do you have any recommendations on how I can prevent a reoccurrence? Thank you!
