    Hello,

Just installed WordPress 3.1 today and uploaded a photo for a background on the 2010 theme. The background appears in Google Chrome and IE 8, but it does not appear in Firefox 3.6.13 (the latest build). In fact the image doesn’t even appear in the dashboard when using Firefox.

Any and all help is appreciated.

  • If you did the auto-upgrade from dashboard, then do a re-upload via FTP or cPanel – http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Updating_WordPress#Manual%20Update

This was not an upgrade, it was a fresh install via the webhost’s (www.ipower.com) vDeck 4 control panel.

Since the original post, I have decided to try loading a background picture in the 2010 Theme directly on the WordPress Site and the same thing happens. It displays in Chrome and IE 8, but not in Firefox 3 on Windows.

This time I also tried it on Firefox 1.5 running on a Mac and it also doesn’t display the background. I have even tried using different images to no avail.

I am beginning to think this is a fundamental issue in WordPress 3.

I don’t see a background image anywhere in your style sheet.

[edit] I see it. Looks like the theme (wordpress) might place the image in header.php?

I just installed the f8 lite theme, downloaded the background image from your own site, and uploaded it as a custom background on mine. I have duplicated your symptom. It did not show in firefox.

I then removed your image, and uploaded a .jpg image of my own as a background, and it worked as expected. I would say try substituting a smaller, different image and see if that changes your symptom. My conclusion at this point is that it works, but just not with your image(s) for some odd reason. (size?)

    ClaytonJames,

I really appreciate the time you have devoted to this matter! As it turns out a man going by “thesacredpath” on the the wordpress.com Themes forum discovered that the files I were uploading had some sort of corruption in them that prevented them from displaying in Firefox. He took the photo, loaded it in Photoshop and resaved it and it worked!

The images I have been trying to use are images I got off my friend’s Mac running OS X 10.6.4 with iPhoto ’11 v9.0 (449).

I have now tried various photos from my own Windows Vista PC and they are all displaying properly in Firefox.

If I ever figure out what the exact corruption is that keeps my friend’s photos from displaying in Firefox, but allows them to display in IE and Chrome I will try to post an update to help out any people in the future that might run into this problem.

    UPDATE:

This is only a guess as to how my friend’s pictures became corrupted, but as it turns out, my friend transferred his pictures from one Mac to another via USB flash drive and he suspects that he did not properly “Eject” the USB drive prior to removing it from the original PC and thus the files became corrupted.

Upon checking, the pictures on the original Mac uploaded to the WordPress site as a background, display correctly in Firefox.
