I upgraded manually by unzipping 2.8 right over top of my 2.7 blog and I’m still getting the notices about 2.8 being available.

A> Where can I see the version of WP that’s installed; it’s not too obvious?
B> Is unzipping over the old install the right thing to do to manually upgrade?
B> How do I get it to acknowledge that it’s been upgraded?

    Thanks,

    S

I’d redo Steps 7 and 8 of Upgrading WordPress Extended.

Missed this before, but wp-includes/version.php has the version.

Make sure you also clear your browser cache and cookies.

You’ve really got to be joking that the running version number is not displayed anywhere in the UI, right?

Guess I missed the obvious response–it’s displayed at the bottom of EVERY admin screen, and in the Right Now module in the Dashboard.

Yup, you’re right, in teeny-tiny type at the bottom right.

    Mine says “Get Version 2.8.”

    Thanks for pointing that out.

I, literally, couldn’t read it until I zoomed in and it’s still telling me to upgrade, anyway.

Now, how about addressing the actual issue which is that WP doesn’t seem to know that it’s been upgraded?

What happens if you try the Tools->Upgrade->Re-install Automatically?

If re-install automatically doesn’t work, do as was previously suggested above:

If you already did this, then say you did so it isn’t assumed that you just ignored the given recommendation.

Hey! I left the browser open (gave up after about 10 minutes) on the update and it did finish!

It also solved the problem. Yay!

A little progress indicator of some sort sure would help the user experience; 10 minutes is a long time to wait with no feedback…glad I just minimized the browser instead of shutting down like I normally would have.
