Hello, I have created up a new superadmin user on my site. Because 2FA is required for all admins, I am trying to activate this for this new user. I have scanned the QR code and now see the 6 digits from Wordfence in the Google Authenticator app. However, when I type these 6 digits into the Login Security/2FA settings of Wordfence, I get an “Error Activating 2FA” message:

The code provided does not match the expected value. Please verify that the time on your authenticator device is correct and that this server’s time is correct.

    What’s going on?

Hello @ryanleeh and thanks for reaching out to us!

A common mistake I see here is, within Google Auth, to make sure you’re selecting the correct user code. I know personally, I have about 20 Wordfence 2FA codes, across all the sites I manage, sometimes I use the wrong code and get that same error.

Let me know what you find!

    Thanks again!

    Thank you!

I have two Wordfence 2Fa codes. I have tried them both, and neither works.

I would recommend deactivating the 2FA and setting it back up again. Do you have access to the dashboard?

Does the 2FA work on your other account? Are both accounts on the same site?

    Thanks again!

Hi @wfadam – I’m not sure what you mean by deactivating since is the issue is that I can’t activate it.

I do have access to the dashboard. 2FA works fine for the other user/superadmin. Both that account and the new account I am trying to create are on the same multisite.

Can you try to use a different authenticator app as a test?

The fact that it’s mentioning the code is incorrect could be a time issue as well. Check the time at the bottom of the Wordfence > Login Security page. Make sure they are within 1 second of each other.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for your help, @wfadam ! I was able to get it working by using a different authenticator app as you suggested.
