Hi @mcoyle76, thanks for getting in touch.
If your time settings match, I would attempt to reset 2FA from scratch as the 6-digit code needs to match again at the time of activation. There is a chance that something has changed on your server since it was originally set up, but this should confirm whether everything is now synchronizing properly across devices.
Follow these steps:
- Please use FTP/SFTP — or any file manager your web host provides via their administration panel.
- Look inside the /wp-content/plugins/ directory and rename the wordfence directory to wordfence.bak. This will deactivate Wordfence and allow you to login without the 2FA code.
- Once you have logged in to your WordPress admin you can name the folder back to wordfence again.
- Go to your user profile and add 2FA back to your account, making sure to download the new backup codes in case of other problems in the future.
Does this now log you in or does it pass at the time of activation and once again fail when you try to log in for real?
Thanks,
Peter.
The issue is not a login issue to the site from the admin login. The issue is it will not allow me to activate 2fa after it was installed due to the error message I got. So basically it has never been activated yet as it won’t let me active it.
I got it to activate I just uninstalled the plugin, and reinstalled it, and setup 2fa right away and it worked.
My apologies for the misunderstanding @mcoyle76, I believed a previously configured 2FA had stopped matching the codes on your device. Thank-you for the update and I’m pleased a reinstall worked for you!
Peter.
