The reason this plugin is so popular is because it was pre installed in all new installations of the WordPress core files by default.
By who? You do mean some hosts right? WordPress doesn’t ship with that plugin by default.
Pre-installed? Where does that happen? I’m pretty sure that’s not why it’s so popular.

What i mean’t was i have seen it pre installed after installing WordPress before many times but not recently.
This may have been included by the host but i think i saw it in the download from ww.wp.xz.cn. Not sure.
I think it helped alot because it had been installed over 1 million times. People go with the numbers.
Personally, i don’t have a problem with the plugin and actually wrote an extensive review about it last year. I just prefer another one.
There just doesn’t seem to be the same sort of following that Yoast has and it looks like the support is a but hit and miss based on the numbers.
Is it true Yoast wrote the original code for the plugin?
When have you seen it bundled with WordPress? Akismet and Hello Dolly are the only plugins that have ever shipped with WordPress.

I think he mentioned it once or someone wrote about it.
Maybe he just contributed to it.
Why don’t you write about it because i think there’s interest. If i had all the facts i would be happy to.
He hasn’t contributed to it, and I doubt he’s ever claimed to.
That sounds like disinformation to me. WordPress does not ship third-party plugins by default and concurring with Michael about Akismet and Hello Dolly are the only two.
That’s years outdated if that’s what he’s referring to. There were a few lines of code in one function shared with one of his older plugins (before his current SEO plugin existed). There isn’t now and hasn’t been in ages.
This is just my opinion, the Yoast plugin does have more features, but features that most do not need or otherwise could do it manually. I would rather not bog down any site with features that I don’t need or ones that I can use a specific plugin for. That’s why I recommend AIOSEOP over WordPress SEO by Yoast especially for beginners.
