3 columns

I know, it is an easy question, but I am novice: How du I set up the fronsite for 3 columns, so that I can show fx 12 or 15 pictures, where each picture links to a subsite? Maybe it it default setup….in that case…how do I upload the 12 or 15 pictures in 3 columns?
