to be clear hit the upgrade link assuming would be taken through ‘do first steps’ and didn’t happen so went straight to upgrade with predictable results
Try:
– switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
esmi this means going into the host service doesn’t it? the site runs so smoothly its been months since I had to do anything complicated
this means going into the host service doesn’t it?
Only if you do not have FTP already set up but intend to use the file management application your host provides. Right now, there really aren’t any other options.
because of time zone (in London) may not be able to sort tonight. thanks for help.
Filezilla allows access to the relevant files and directories.
currently the site exists I just cannot log into admin nor can other users
when I made the two changes above, these took place, the folders were renamed, but all that happened was the site disappeared!
any further suggestions
the hosting service helpdesk is swamped with other issues at present.
Exactly what folders did you rename?
twentyten which is my theme and plugins
I can see both the original names and the .hold versions in filezilla!? weirdsville
wpsite/wp-content/etc etc
Sorry? You still have a wp-content/themes/twentyten folder?
sorry for delay. yes I can still see this after I renamed it, as both still seem to be there
I logged out of filezilla and back again and these folders disappeared.
so to recap when I change the name of that theme folder to something else, the site disappears. any clues about what to try?
