    Hi there,

I have a very specific question regarding the URL behaviour when 3D verification is required at the WooCommerce checkout.

Usually the URL for a completed checkout ends on /oder-received/… and I am wondering how it behaves when 3D is involved? Will the /oder-received/… URL be already in place when the 3D popup is shown? Is there any URL change for the popup?

I am asking because we are using a waiting room software for our show and want to destroy sessions at /oder-received/… but some customers complained that they were kicked back into the waiting room when trying to verify their payment through 3D.

I couldn’t really find a good way of testing this…

Thanks for any help in advance!

    Hubsi

  • Hi Hubsi,

Thank you for reaching out to us. In WooCommerce, when 3D Secure is required, the order process is slightly different from a standard transaction. Typically, the /order-received/ page is meant to indicate that the checkout process is complete; however, when the 3D Secure process is triggered (after the customer enters their payment details and clicks to place the order), a 3D verification step is initiated by the customer’s bank.

The customer is usually presented with a modal popup or redirected to an external page to verify their identity, depending on the payment gateway’s implementation of 3D Secure. The order status (and consequently the URL) should not change to /order-received/ until the verification process is successfully completed and the payment is confirmed. Only then will the customer be directed to the /order-received/ page.

But, if your customers are reporting that they are being kicked back into the waiting room during the 3D verification process, it could imply that the /order-received/ URL (or similar) is being prematurely presented or recorded in some way.

Let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.
