404 Error on wp-admin and Custom Admin URL

My WP installation had been working fine until updating a series of plugins at once. My site crashed after the update and is back up running.
The problem is I cannot access my admin page. I had prior installed a plugin (better-wp-security) to customize my wp-admin URL.
I attempted several steps to gain access to admin including:
— Reinstalling WP 4.1
— Disabling all plugins
— Restarting the server
— Confirming the custom login URL is still under “Options” in the databaseThere were other minor steps taken. After all these steps, /wp-admin, /wp-login.php and my custom URL all result in 404 errors (“The requested URL /[XXXX] was not found on this server.”)
One solution proposed I haven’t tested is deleting the .htaccess file. I unfortunately haven’t been able to find the .htaccess file relevant to WP.
Can anyone advise on further troubleshooting?
