    Hi,

I have an ongoing issue and could really do with some advice before I pull all my hair out.

My friend asked me to assist him with errors on his website but I can’t figure it out.
The problem is that existing product pages have been receiving JS and CSS 404 errors from WPFC. To fix the error I would clear the WPFC cache and minified css/js but roughly 8-10 hours later the error would reappear in the console again. I searched the support forums and discovered that this could be a conflict between autoptimize and WPFC. I adjusted the WPFC settings and turned off the minification of JS and CSS files.

Now in the console I receive a 404 JS and CSS error from autoptimize.
    JS Error: https://tradewest.ie/wp-content/cache/autoptimize/js/autoptimize_23b08e30ea2fc50c5b46f8dc33e7ad52.js

    CSS Error: https://tradewest.ie/wp-content/cache/autoptimize/css/autoptimize_aae08662c2362d4e6b7e07db2168c2bf.css

Like the previous WPFC error, once the cache is cleared the page loads normally again but the error reappears roughly 8 – 10 hours later. The WPFC error would prevent product details from being loaded but now the new autoptimize 404 error removes all the styling on the page.

Just to note that the website is built with elementor incase that may be causing the problem.

    Kind Regards,

    Conor

As Autoptimize does not ever remove files from it’s own cache, something else seems to be doing so. Do you use some code snippet or do you have some plugin that clears Autoptimize’s cache? If not you might have a naughty pluging that -incorrectly- thinks it is a good idea (which it clearly is not).

Additionally: normally Autoptimize has a ‘404 fallback’ option to somewhat gracefully handle these situations, can you check if that option is on?

    Hi Frank,

Thank you for the speedy reply.

To the best of my knowledge there’s no plugin installed that would clear autoptimizes cache automatically but I will go through the active plugins just to be safe.

The 404 fallback was not enabled so I’ll enable this now. I won’t be able to see the outcome of enabling this option until the problem reoccurs.

I did notice a plugin called WP Sweep that is active. Could that be causing the problem?

never heard of WP Sweep and don’t see references to Autoptimize in the plugin description, but not impossible off course.

and the 404 fallback itself works, just try loading https://tradewest.ie/wp-content/cache/autoptimize/js/autoptimize_13b08e30ea2fc50c5b46f8dc33e7ad52.js which does not exist (simply change a letter/ number in the hash to test more)

    That’s great Frank.

I removed some plugins that could be part of the problem so hopefully that resolves the issue.

Thank you again for the speedy reply. I’ve gone through the support forums looking for information over the last few days and your quick response time to users doesn’t go unnoticed so keep up the good work and have great day.
