Hi developers, after disabling the plugin from the extensions page, I have a 404 error for the admin part only. How can I reactivate the plugin to find my administration. Thank you for your help

    Hi @samarabriva,

Hmm, that’s strange. The only feature in this plugin which I would suspect might be related to such behavior is the “Change Login URL” functionality, but that’s part of the Pro version of this plugin (and not included in the Free version as present on ww.wp.xz.cn).

If you had a Custom Login URL enabled in the plugin, it should revert to the standard /wp-admin/ URL basically instantly after disabling the plugin. But there might be some persistent caching on the site that results in a 404 when visiting either of these links, until the caches are cleared manually on the site.

Or maybe you’re still using a different plugin (e.g. WPS Hide Login) to change the Login URL on the site, which is still enabled and taking effect?

In any case, I’d start by clearing or temporarily bypassing the cache, to see if that might already restore the standard Login URL; because if it was changed by this plugin it should immediately revert upon disabling the plugin.

    Kind regards, Jarno

Indeed, I had the WPS Hide Login plugin that was working.
Now I have another question: Am I obliged to keep the plugin for SSL or can I delete the plugin, knowing that I have an active SSL certificate on the host side?

    Hi @samarabriva,

It depends, the plugin enforces SSL on your website by fixing mixed content, updating the Site URL to https:// and by adding a redirect from http:// -> https:// if needed, so that the site can only be accessed over https://. You can check if the site still loads correctly over HTTPS without having the plugin enabled, because in that case you could consider removing it.

Just to note: this plugin is not a ‘replacement’ for the SSL certificate as installed on your server. You’ll always need a valid SSL certificate for the site to work correctly over HTTPS, aside of configuring SSL on WordPress via this plugin.

You can generate SSL certificates via the Let’s Encrypt Wizard in this plugin too, but the SSL certificate would still have to be installed on your server like any other SSL certificate (e.g., in a control panel like cPanel/Plesk).

    Kind regards, Jarno
