I have been able to use the automatic update for a long time to update WordPress, but for some reason it failed today. Do you have any idea why based on the message I received? How can I get around this to update WordPress?

  • Hello mscarroll,

Here is a link to a similar post where “ripefruit” provides some detailed troubleshooting steps for this error:

I have had the same problem. I followed all the troubleshooting ideas on the link posted above, but the problem persists. I gave full permissions to the upgrade folder, have unlimited disk space on my server plan with hostgator, there are no files in the upgrade folder (visible or hidden), and I have always been able to update before just fine.

This is the exact message that shows up:

    Update WordPress
    Downloading update from http://downloads.wp.xz.cn/release/wordpress-4.6-no-content.zip…

Download failed.: Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?)

    Installation Failed

Any help or ideas would be appreciated
