• Dear WP-wizards.

I just updated my wordpress website and I think I did something terribly wrong.
I think in the ‘general’ page on my WP admin page I changed ‘website’ from http://www.andi.nl (original website) to http://www.andi.nl/home because I thought that this would create a forward to the right home page (had some trouble with that).

Anyway, as soon as I saved these settings the 500 Internal Server Error came up when surfing to andi.nl (/home doesnt help). Im extremely stressed out right now. I have printed the error below. Note that the host is different (andiproject.org) this is because that is where the website is hosted and the site andi.nl re-directs to this page.

I can’t access the site, or the /wp-admin so I am at a loss as how to fix this. I read online that sometimes this has to do with plugins, but I cant imagine that being the problem here (as I clearly changed something after what which it stopped working).

    Please help me out

    Thanks so so much.

  • Hello eclipapps!

I am sorry to hear you are having a hard time with your website. Have you been able to try changing the site URL back to http://www.andi.nl instead of http://www.andi.nl/home? I know you said you do not have access to your admin dashboard, but you can still change the site URL through the wp-config.php file or through your website’s database directly. The Codex has information on how to do this kind of thing:

    https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Changing_The_Site_URL

It’s always good to make a backup of the file or database before editing it, if you can, just to be safe.

In addition, the server’s Apache error log will have a cause listed for the 500 error you are seeing. That usually can provide helpful information towards resolving the issue. Of course, in this instance, I’m betting it’ll probably say something about too many redirects, which wouldn’t be a super helpful error. Your IP address looks like it belongs to a web hosting provider. If you aren’t familiar with checking that log or with working with the wp-config.php file or your site database, it may be worthwhile contacting your host for assistance.

    Hello Jadon,

Thank you so much for your help. I have managed to fix my problem. Which was quite difficult due to some bugs (after I retrieved the wp-admin page I could not change the web address of the site unless I changed my theme..). Anyway It is back and I am happy!

My original problem, however, has not been fixed and perhaps you can point me in the right direction? My site doesn’t load on IE and Edge (it does on Firefox or Chrome). I have the feeling there is some loop at work somewhere and Firefox and Chrome cut it off but IE keeps looping until a time out is presented. Do you have any suggestions where to look for the solution to this problem? (it concerns http://www.andi.nl).

    Best regards!
