Is your network set up as a subdomain install or a subfolder install?

Hi! Thanks for replying. πŸ™‚ If I understand you correctly, it’s a subfolder install. E.g. http://maindomain.com/domain2

What is the error you are getting?

    Thread Starter zanzaboonda

    (@zanzaboonda)

Thanks for your help. πŸ™‚ Here’s what it says:

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

In case it means something to you, it doesn’t matter if I type in the wp-admin url directly or try to visit from the network dashboard. I get the same thing.

    Thanks again!

If you could find a 500 error in your server logs, that would be more helpful.

Sorry, I’ve never requested a server error log before. πŸ™‚

Okay, it says “Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use ‘LimitInternalRecursion’ to increase the limit if necessary.”

I just Googled this and see a reference to Bulletproof Security, which I recently installed. However, deactivating it didn’t seem to change anything.

In the Network Setup screen in Network Admin there is a text area with the rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess. Check to see that your .htaccess has the correct rewrite rules.

Yes. There were some other things in .htaccess from BP Security, but the network code was in tact. I deleted everything from BP Security, and now there is only the network settings stuff, but the problem persists. πŸ™

Is there anything else it could be?

Do you have a domain where the www is being redirected to the non-www & visa versa somewhere else?

    Thread Starter zanzaboonda

    (@zanzaboonda)

Thanks so much for your help on this.

Well, the www redirects to the non-www, which is how the nameservers are set up. But I’m not 100% sure what you mean by the “vice versa somewhere else” part. Would you mind clarifying that for me?

    (@zanzaboonda)

Just as an update, I now see this is happening on ALL of my subdomains, not just the ones with custom domains. So, it doesn’t seem to be your plugin.

I think it might be from BPS, but I’m not sure. I’ve tried talking to my hosting provider, which is GoDaddy (I know, I know), but they seem to not have a clue about multisite.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know what I found out and to say thanks for all of your help.

Obviously, I don’t expect you to continue troubleshooting this for me, but if you have any suggestions as to a direction in which I could go, I would be most appreciative.

    Thanks again! πŸ™‚

By default WP redirects www. requests to the non-www (the exception being when the main site is set up on www). If your webserver was set up so it was redirecting non-www to www then you would see the behaviour you are describing.

Oh, I see. No, everything just goes to the non-www. Thanks so much for taking time out to respond. (Pulling my hair out. lol Wish I knew what happened!)

Turned out to be an issue with BP Security and the .htaccess file they generated.

Thanks so much for all of your help! I really appreciate it.
