I don’t use MainWP, but I think you can try to exclude all their IP addresses (from maintenance mode) by using the “Exclude” setting.
If you need the IP addresses, ask their support team.
Later edit: My bad. I thought that MainWP is similar to ManageWP. 🙂
You have to exclude (on each child) the IP address of the website where you have MainWP Dashboard plugin installed.
Disclaimer: If the main website is hosted on your localhost, you have to use the external IP address.

Okay, you have already gone above and beyond but I am confused. Where would I go to exclude the website of the Mainwp Dashboard? I don’t see anything in the settings area on the child site.
@jschmidtsbss you have to exclude the IP address of the website where “MainWP Dashboard” is installed.
Where? On each child website, go to “Settings” > “WP Maintenance Mode” > “Exclude”, and add that IP address.
