503 error failed to read fastcgi header

I have been investigating a occasional 503 error on my site that the server error log labels as “failed to read fastcgi header” with wpcron.php

Using Health Check (ww.wp.xz.cn community) it scanned my plugins and identified EME with a message “Testing events-made-easy: The loopback request to your site took too long to complete, this may prevent WP_Cron from working, along with theme and plugin editors.”

I have disabled the plugin and the test loopback runs ok (whilst it doesn’t when activated). Any other info you’d like?

I don’t think the 503 is related to that, but it seems indeed that WP 4.9 has once again become more prone to what you do in a plugin. I do a session_start (for client clock checks and for captcha) and that results in the problem you’re experiencing.
Try this change:

Now, indeed sessions are not recommended in WP (although it is a secure mechanism and I have no clue as to otherwise get and store the client clock …). I’ll look for a better solution for the captcha.

Btw: wp_cron is not reccommended when using EME (for precision issues, mailings etc …). That’s why I recommend this:
```
  In crontab: */5 * * * * php -q /path/to/wordpress/wp-cron.php >/dev/null 2>&1
  And in wp-config.php: define('DISABLE_WP_CRON', true);
```

sorry I still get

Am I doing something wrong?

If you copied the complete eme_functions.php file, then this is normal (I moved that function from events_manager.php to eme_functions.php, but you only changed eme_functions.php).
Either apply only the differences or get the complete dev-version here (is quite stable):

I got the 2.0.14 update before I had a chance to test the dev version. I am still getting the 503 and the same error in my error log. Health Check only passes the loopback test if I deactivate EME. Is there any test I can do to help?

The main check fails, but if I do “test without plugins” and then “test individual plugins” all works fine

Yes I get the same. But I am still getting 503 errors whci I don’t when I disable just eme. Am I the only one?

what is happening when you get the 503? What is in your server logs?
Also, this will help: in eme_functions.php, line 1054 change

if (eme_is_wp_ajax()) return;
to
if (eme_is_wp_ajax() || is_admin()) return;

The your health-check should work ok all the time (and it is better too). Maybe that will avoid your 503 problems, but those might have a complete different cause too.

Health check certainly runs the loopback without a hitch now. Though I am still getting the same error. I can’t say that its EME though it might be Mailpoet since the last error shows that

Cool, good to hear.
The 503 seems indeed something mailpoet related here.
You know that EME can do mailings too I hope? 🙂

EME mailings: for events, memberships or generic for all EME persons. If you can write an API for mailpoet, you can for EME now 🙂 Mailings can be planned, reused etc …
And the next version will also track the mail being read. Maybe not all as fancy with graphics as mailpoet has, but it is sufficient for most needs.

Mailpoet is a bit ott for my needs. atm I already hook into EME for new and updated events via hooks in your api. Is there a hook that would enable me to mail according to category of new post?
