Unrelated to this plugin. 504 usually means that your reverse proxy can’t connect to the backend server running WordPress. Check your error logs for more details.

A couple versions back, we introduced a change that broke support for PHP < 5.3. We strongly suggest you update, since those PHP versions are unsupported and have unpatched security vulnerabilities.
If you can’t for whatever reason, you can revert to version 3.2.7 of the plugin:
