#_EVENTEXCERPT Placeholder

Is there any way to have the #_EVENTEXCERPT excerpt that’s pulled in stripped of all HTML tags like the standard WordPress excerpt?

I’m running into some issues with nested anchor tags. Right now I have each event item on the archive page wrapped in an anchor with a link to the full event detail. This works perfectly fine until an event is listed with a link in its excerpt – then the nested anchors mess up the display. Stripping all HTML like the standard WordPress excerpt would solve this problem.

I didn’t see anything else on http://wp-events-plugin.com/documentation/placeholders/ that looked like it would handle that – noticed similar issues with #_EVENTNOTES as well. Any thoughts on a way around this?
