    Hi guys,

This ‘branding’ option within the initial setup has got me scratching my head this time.

Let’s say that I run a web design business.

In the site title, I add ‘Branding | Web Design | Digital Marketing | DeeVeeArr Media’, which takes care of all the search words that I wanted to rank for, together with my name (which should be the brand).

Going into a page or post, however, it’s then nagging me that ‘it’s not branded’ and is encouraging me to add the whole of the site title to rectify this.

Two options then – do I keep the whole site title and make all of the pages and posts look silly, but changing my ‘site title’ to a green colour in the ‘Title is not branded’ reading – or do I just use ‘DeeVeeArr Media’ as the site title, which would remove all of the search words from my site title and force people to search for my own name as the brand name, but then missing out on the search words?

Something else I noticed in the ‘branding’ issue:

Looking at the source code on the Yoast Version, the branding consists of the site title as above, eg ‘Branding | Web Design | Digital Marketing | DeeVeeArr Media’.

Checking on TSF though, there’s a &middot following the site title, which then adds the tagline to the site title.

Does this mean that the tagline forms a part of the site title (as far as Google is concerned) so that I could add DeeVeeArr Media as the site title, then ‘Branding | Web Design | Digital Marketing’ in the tagline for the necessary search words?

    Hello!

This should explain your first comment:

    And for your second comment:
You can adjust the homepage title at “SEO Settings > Homepage Settings.” There, under the “Additions”-tab, you can overwrite the usage of the default ‘tagline.’ We chose using the tagline because it’s also what WordPress uses; not much more thought than that went into it. Feel free to change that part to whatever you feel is best :). I recommend not changing the Homepage’s “Meta Title” itself unless you find a good reason to do so.

Yes, I’ve got the branding back to the Yoast version now, by over-writing the use of the default tagline in the ‘additions’ tab.

The only problem now then is the perpetual blue marker, which owing to my OCD is going to drive me away from TSF I’m afraid.

This would appear to be the perfect reason why the ‘Focus’ extension should be considered as an essential add-on.

    Hi @cybr

I’m afraid I’ve had to de-activate and remove TSF due to the issues on ‘branding’ outlined above.

The thing is with Yoast, it’s not perfect by any means – even less now that it’s been acquired by the firm that took over EIG, but it doesn’t keep nagging you if your title isn’t branded.

However, I’ll keep a lookout for the ‘different approach’ that you mentioned in the post above.
