Access Key validation failed: API response – access key invalid

Hi, and thanks in advance for the help!

I have tried two different access keys for this setup, and I can’t get them to validate. I’ve even tried using the email provided in setup instructions to force the change, but even that isn’t working. The full error is

2025-04-09 07:54:48: Access key validating: Access Key validation failed: API error – SERVER_ERROR NO: 6 MSG: Unknown access key, check if the key is correct https://cleantalk.org/my?product_id=4

Please let me know what steps I need to take.

Hello @mcsteam,

I can assume that you used the access key from our Security service and inserted it into our Anti-Spam plugin. Please get the correct access key from your site in your Anti-Spam Dashboard: https://cleantalk.org/my?cp_mode=antispam

After entering the correct access key, please make sure that you click the Save Changes button, not Get the Access key. The Save Changes button is placed lower, under the displayed settings.

The correct key was there, but I’ve resaved it anyway. I received the following errors:

2025-04-09 08:53:02: Access key validating: Access Key validation failed: API error – SERVER_ERROR NO: 6 MSG: Unknown access key, check if the key is correct https://cleantalk.org/my?product_id=42025-04-09 08:53:03: Scheduled scanning: Common result send: SERVER_ERROR NO: 6 MSG: Unknown access key, check if the key is correct https://cleantalk.org/my?product_id=42025-04-09 08:53:03: Scheduled: background_scan: Common result send: SERVER_ERROR NO: 6 MSG: Unknown access key, check if the key is correct https://cleantalk.org/my?product_id=42025-04-09 08:53:01: Scheduled: send_firewall_logs: SERVER_ERROR NO: 6 MSG: Unknown access key, check if the key is correct https://cleantalk.org/my?product_id=42025-04-09 08:53:02: Scheduled: access_key_notices: API error – SERVER_ERROR NO: 6 MSG: Unknown access key, check if the key is correct https://cleantalk.org/my?product_id=4

This link in the error means that you are using our Security plugin. But in your profile I see that you would like to connect the site to the Anti-Spam plugin. The Security plugin and the Anti-Spam plugin are two different services and plugins. Please check what plugin you want to use. If you want to protect your site from spam, please install our Anti-Spam plugin: https://cleantalk.org/help/install-wordpress

The access key to our Anti-Spam plugin can be found here: https://cleantalk.org/my?cp_mode=antispam

If you need to use our Security plugin instead of Anti-Spam, the correct access key to the Security plugin can be found here: https://cleantalk.org/my?cp_mode=security

Oh my goodness. What a silly mistake on my part. Thank you so much, Dimitri! That absolutely fixed it. You would think after setting things up on several other sites that I would have caught that.
