Accessibility issues
-
Hi,
At Northeastern University, we use a WordPress vendor called CampusPress where we host thousands of University websites. The vendor controls what plugins we use, and Metaslider is installed as the slider of choice on our network.
Metaslider provides an excellent array of theme and customizations on the dashboard.
We would really like to recommend the Metaslider. However, due to accessibility issues in the sliders, it’s difficult for us to recommend it to our user-base.
Since the plugin was upgraded to include such themes as “Base” and “Clarity (for accessibility), the main accessibility issues we see are:
- All interactive components should receive keyboard focus and include a visible focus indicator.
- Each slide should have a visible keyboard focus indicator if the slide is a link.
- The slides should not receive keyboard focus if there is no link associated with the slide.
- It inconsistently produces additional <li> elements for each slide in the DOM. This may affect the amount of tab stops within the slider which can be confusing or potentially burdensome for some users.
- The default arrow navigation in the Base theme displays the same color for both the arrow its background such that you can’t see the arrow icons.
- In the Clarity theme, there is no visible keyboard focus indicator on the arrow (Prev/Next) navigation.
Would you be able to address these issues in a future release? Again, we’d really like to recommend Metaslider and have it be accessible to all users since it has many great features to work with.
Much appreciated!
Thanks!
-Chris
