Account resource usage alert

Yesterday I installed and set up the EWW Image Optimizer plugin and bulk optimized all my images. Unfortunately I received an email from my host stating that I was going far over the resource usage limit with my account, due to this plugin. Is there any way I could limit the resource usage while still using this plugin?
