Activate/Preview Error – Elegant themes

I am trying to activate a theme from elegant themes, and am not having success. I have:
1) uploaded it via .ZIP and tried to preview/activate
2) manually FTP up and installed it
(I have tried multiple elegant themes in both chrome & safari, hosted on earthlink)

both ways show up as a thumbnail and come through in the ‘themes’ category, but when I preview/activate, they show up completely blank/white.

Please help & thanks for the suggestions.
