Fatal error: Namespace declaration statement has to be the very first statement or after any declare call in the script in /home3/leadgles/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/integrations/front-end/robots-txt-integration.php on line 4

I only got this message when installing Yoast SEO. Can anyone tell me what this error message means?

    Hi @chrismcelroyseo

We’re sorry to hear that you’re encountering this issue. This error usually indicates that the plugin wasn’t installed fully or correctly.

Could you try installing Yoast SEO Free 19.0 manually via FTP and see if it then activates as expected without any errors?

Yeah, I did that and updated it. SO, that may be the issue. The one on my hard drive was 3 years old at least. Going to download the latest version and install it.

That worked. The one I had was too old and updating several versions at once was causing the issue and possibly a conflict with xml-sitemaps plugin. Thank you.
