Active theme broken

    I keep getting an error message after successfully installing a theme:

    The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme.

    I then go to check if the theme shows up in the themes section of wordpress and I get that error message.

    I’ve looked through all of the forums and nothing is helping.

    What can I do?

    I’ve had issues in the past uploading themes using the wordpress control panel. Try uploading it directly through FTP and see if that fixes the problem.

    Also, I wanted to say that I can not install any new plugins as well as delete any plugins that are not even activated. Even if I try to delete a plugin and it says it was successfully deleted, it is still there. Also the updates go through successfully but do not show up.

    I did try that as well but the theme did not show up in the actual wordpress gui.

    is it maybe because I am trying to put a zipped folder into the theme folder through my FTP client?

    You have to make sure you extract the zip to wp-themes folder.

    do you know how I extract through fileZilla?

    Extract to your desktop and drag and drop the file into the destination folder in filezilla.

    I figured it out. So I have the extracted folder in the themes file through my FTP client. But it still will not show up.

    I have followed those steps and still canot see the actual theme in my dashboard.

    I have also tried playing with the file permissions and nothing is working. Evern if I upload the zipped filed through the dashboard it will show up through FTP but not on the dashboard itself.
