    Hello,

I apologize if this has been answered (I looked but did not find a post on this topic.) I’m having troubled getting custom ads to work on our site. The ad injection seems to be causing troubles with our posts rendering strangely. A period renders as “.” for example. Here’s a fuller example:

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue was assisted in the search by personnel from Mohawk Valley Rural Fire District, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, and Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank these partner agencies, and the many members of the community, who assisted in the successful search efforts.

    Hi prismaticmedia,

    thanks for reaching out.

I have seen a few cases where this happened and it was always caused by some third party code or a broken ad code.

Does it not happen when you disable the ads (not Advanced Ads, but just the ads injected into the content)?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Thanks for such a quick response. I did disable all plugins to see if that was an issue but that didn’t help. I’m guessing it’s down to a theme issue. I’ve seen elsewhere that there may be some issue with the Newspaper plugin which is what we use.

The issue doesn’t appear to happen with the Adsense ads, just when I try to inject custom ad.

    Hi prismaticmedia,

just happened to catch this before I go offline for today (10 pm here).

Interesting to learn that AdSense ads don’t cause it. It might indicate a problem with the other ads. Are those from external sites or hand-coded HTML?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Thanks again for the response. Sleep is under-rated anyway, right? 😉

I don’t know if it matters but all we are doing with Adsense at this time is the auto ads. What I’m hoping to do with the plugin is to insert additional ads on article pages every 3 or 4 paragraphs. I tried 3 types of ads (image, html, and dummy test ad) and got the same results.

I did some further testing with different types of placements and got good results as long as I didn’t use the “after x paragraphs” option. That’s the feature I’m hoping to use.

Ultimately, I’d like to be using this on pages like this one (https://oregoncrimenews.com/lane-county-mugshots-preview-edition-oct-16-2018/) to insert an ad after every other arrest record. It looks like I can mostly achieve this with the “after x paragraphs” feature.

    Thanks for the details.

Which solution are you using to create a page content?
If it is created and formatted using a plugin or maybe a specific theme option the I would like to test that.

Does the problem also appear on pages where you have text only, without some additional features in them?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

About 80% of our content is generated via automated custom programs that we’ve written. It’s just straight HTML uploaded via the wordpress API.

I just created a test page with just some text and placed a dummy test ad on it. The ad is just on this one page. https://oregoncrimenews.com/ad-test-page/

Thank you for the sample page.

I wasn’t able to reproduce it.

Looks like some WordPress content filter runs twice here. Are you using custom filters on the content with your own solution?

    Thanks,
    Thomas
